Hip-Hop Meets Dance Hall Workshop
by Lady Sol

Hip-Hop meets Dancehall Workshop is an Afro-Caribbean and Hip-Hop movement MASHUP of music, community ritual, social dance, and FIYAH energy led by Leyda "ProFeSOL" Garcia!

We will explore the riddims and street dances of Jamaica at the intersection of American Hip-Hop music from artists such as Wyclef Jean, Nicki Minaj, and Foxy Brown (all of whom are of Caribbean descent).

Leyda “Lady Sol” Garcia is the daughter of Mexican immigrant parents and was raised in Chicago. She was born a dancer who spent her teens and twenties training in dance clubs throughout Chicago, NYC, and L.A. Leyda was mentored and taught by numerous Black Dance masters including Mama Efe McWorter of Joseph Holmes Dance Theater, Baba Idy Ciss of Muntu Dance, Hip-Hop legend, Leslie "Big Lez" Segar, the Body Love Empress Jessica Phoenix Fiyah, and Fada Bogle's prodigy Chad Global Bob Torrington from Kingston. Lady Sol is a Co-Founder of Kuumba Lynx, Chicago's premiere Hip-Hop Arts and Education organization. She is also the Founder and former Manager/Director of the globally recognized FootworKINGz whose notoriety includes work with Missy Elliott, Nicki Minaj, and Madonna. Lady Sol's life work has been committed to the empowerment of marginalized communities through social dance learning with a Hip-Hop foundation and a Reggae/Dancehall attitude.
