Introduction to Salsa with Denita Inez

Make a date to dance Friday afternoons this fall!

From October 24 through and including November 21, 2025, new instructors every week will lead this sampler series of a kaleidoscope of techniques, styles, and approaches. Drawn from Chicago’s wealth of dance talent, visiting artists, as well as exceptional students and alums, this series is curated by current dance major Calme Brown.

All classes take place at the Dance Center and movers at all levels are welcome.

Introduction to Salsa with Denita Inez

Friday November 14, 2-3:20pm Room 300

Salsa is a global phenomenon being danced in countries around the world. It has a rich and varied history that contributes to the tapestry of the dance. In this class, dancers will learn fundamentals and techniques of body movement in the context of learning Salsa choreography. This class will explore Afro-Latin body movement and Salsa footwork. We will dance a Latin warm-up, do technique-based exercises, and learn an energetic combination.

Denita Inez is a dancer, choreographer, and instructor. Denita is the Artistic Director of Desueño, a Latin Jazz dance and private event company. She is currently on staff at Lake Forest Dance Academy and at Old Town School of Folk Music. She is an independent freelance dancer and has danced for Chicago Dance Crash, Noumenon Dance Ensemble, Modern Clave, and Civic Dance Ensemble. She has represented the United States at the World Latin Dance Cup. Denita Inez is known for her energetic style and dynamic musicality. She has various choreography credits including "The Chi" on Showtime. Denita Inez received her Bachelor of Science in Dance at Wayne State University. She has also trained with Deeply Rooted and Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater. As a performer, Denita Inez is revered for her musicality and unique movement style.
