Latin Jazz Workshop by Wilfredo Rivera

Make a date to dance Fridays this spring from 10:30 a.m. to 12 noon!

From February 14 through and including March 21, 2025 new instructors every week, drawn from Chicago’s wealth of dance talent, visiting artists, and exceptional students lead this sampler series of a kaleidoscope of techniques, styles and approaches.

All classes take place in the Dance Center theater and movers at all levels are welcome.

Latin Jazz Workshop by Wilfredo Rivera

Rivera invites to join in a celebration of community and to explore your individuality through this Latin Jazz inspired workshop fusing elements of Latinx diaspora with jazz and contemporary techniques. The session invites participants to dive into uplifting themes of energy accessibility, earthiness sensibilities, soulful inspiration and playful articulation to awaken the senses and nourish the spirit. What to wear? Dance or rehearsal form fitting yet stretchy attire, barefooted, socks and/or jazz shoes if desired.



Wilfredo Rivera is a rare Latino artist serving as a full-time director, choreographer, and arts leader. Wilfredo was born in Honduras, trained with Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, and was a founding member of River North Dance Chicago. Mr. Rivera was honored with the 2009 Cliff Dwellers Arts Foundation Choreography Award, a 2001 After Dark Award, nominated for a 3ARTS Award in 2017 & 2018 & recipient of a 2021 Black Album.mixtape Award for his multicultural work. In Chicago, Mr. Rivera’s concert work has been featured at The Auditorium Theatre, The Harris Theater, The Chicago Symphony Center with the Chicago Sinfonietta, Chicago Jazz Festival, Hyde Park Jazz Festival, Ruth Page Center for the Arts, DuSable Museum, Reva and David Logan Center for the Arts, Links Hall, Old Town School of Folk Music, and Mayne Stage, among others. Theater & Movement choreography includes productions for Goodman Theatre, Bailiwick Theatre, Metropolis Arts Center, Columbia College Chicago, American Theater Co., Porchlight Theater, The Artistic Home, Aerial Dance, Pegasus Players, American Players Theater & Forward Theater in WI. He recently choreographed La Havana Madrid written & starring Sandra Delgado and produced by Teatro Vista. His evening length work American Catracho, an exploration of the immigrant experience, debuted in 2019 at The Auditorium Theatre. He is the Artistic Director & CEO of the critically acclaimed Cerqua Rivera Dance Theatre (CRDT), a Chicago based touring ensemble celebrating its 25th Anniversary this season.
