Thursday’s 12/17 concert includes the announcement and celebration of the inaugural Shirley Mordine Dance Maker Awardees!
Friday’s concert opens with RE:ALIZE – Chicago Public High School students earning college credit at the Dance Center.
Kiswahili for “gifts”, the ZAWADI culminating concerts of 2026 at the Dance Center feature choreographic offerings by guest choreographers Matumbe Himons, Nejla Yatkin, and Assistant Professor Dardi McGinley Gallivan set on students in the Repertory Performance Workshop course. Originated by Dance Center founder Shirley Mordine, the course introduces aspiring professionals to a repertory company dancer’s experience of embodying multiple choreographic perspectives and languages. Also on the program will be a new work choreographed by faculty members Darrell Jones and Lisa Gonzales. Faculty Advisor: Bevara Anderson-Selkridge.
