Friday Class Series
Make a date to dance every Friday this fall from 10:30 a.m. to 12 noon.

From September 27 through and including November 22, 2024 new instructors every week, drawn from Chicago’s wealth of dance talent, visiting artists, and exceptional students lead this sampler series of a kaleidoscope of techniques, styles, and approaches. All classes take place in the Dance Center theater and movers at all levels are welcome. Fall Class Pass holders receive friendly reminders each week with information about each instructor and any special instructions.

Join Joey Martinez for this workshop focused on learning how to break free of the notion of performance and create a casual space where both art and humanity can coexist.

Joey Martinez is a choreographer and dance educator from suburban Illinois, now residing in Chicago. Beginning their choreographic journey at age 13, they aim to provide a space for artists to freely experience emotions without the weight of an authoritarian, capitalist society surrounding them. In their work throughout the city, they have danced for DanceWorks Chicago, Thodos Dance Chicago, BoomCrack! Dance Company, and COMMON Conservatory. Joey is earning their BFA in Dance at Columbia College Chicago, training with dance artists such as Carrie Hanson and Darrell Jones. They have created 2 works for The Dance Center at Columbia College Chicago stage, entitled, why can't I see it anymore? and O Mother, I Can Feel!!! Before their time at Columbia, they were awarded the Prodigy All Star award at Artistic Dance Exchange, and educated up-and-coming generations of dancers in Hip-Hop and Contemporary aesthetics at the YMCA. Joey Martinez; a choreographer and dancer originating from the Illinois Suburbs, currently holds a BFA in Dance from Columbia College Chicago. They have worked with Danceworks Chicago, Thodos Dance Chicago, BOOMCRACK! Dance Company, and COMMON Conservatory. Joey has created 3 works for The Dance Center stage, and debuted their choreography professionally at New Dances 2024.
