Chicago Footwork Workshop by Sirr Tmo
Join Sirr Tmo, a professional Chicago footwork dancer with nearly 20 years of experience, for an immersive workshop at Columbia Dance Center.
This session will focus on mastering form, understanding musicality, and developing your own footwork vocabulary. Participants will explore foundational moves like the west side ghost, south side two-step, bangs, dribbles, drops, spins, breakdowns, and combos, including left-to-right patterns to build symmetry in movement.
You’ll learn to create choreography using footwork house tracks and rhythm-based songs, enhancing your musical interpretation skills.
Sirr Tmo brings a deep knowledge of footwork’s history, from its origins on Chicago's west side in 1979 to its expansion throughout the city and beyond, shaped by different generations of dancers. His personal journey, from self-taught beginnings to touring, battling, and performing professionally, will inspire and guide participants.
