Cerqua Rivera Dance Theatre’s Chicago Latinx/e Contemporary Movement Festival Concert features CRDT performing an excerpt of a new work by Omar Roman de Jesus alongside six artists/collectives: Anniela Huidobro Castro, Anise Fernández & Amanda Ramirez, Ruben Andrés Castillo Gomez, Mark Travis Rivera | The Professional Storyteller, Paula Sousa, and Victoria Villamil selected through an open call for proposals from Latinx/e creators who engage choreographically with binational and multi-racial identity, multi-generational experiences, immigrant narratives, identity politics, and/or gender expansiveness.
After launching the festival in 2025 at the Ruth Page, Cerqua Rivera Dance Theatre is expanding the second year to two days to include the festival concert with post-show Q&A along with a Whacking for Self-Expression and Liberation workshop by Tori Christi from Whacking Los Angeles and a Community Conversation by David Herrera from Latinx Hispanic Dancers United platforming the cultural moment in the intersectional Latinx dance community.
